ASUS vs Olivechard Spec Comparison
core functionality
The ASUS ROG Ally is a complete handheld gaming PC. It includes the AMD Z1 Extreme processor, memory, and storage in one unit. You get a fully functional device ready for games. Olivechard offers only a replacement LCD screen assembly. It is a spare part for repairs, not a gaming console. You cannot play games with the Olivechard item alone. It requires an existing ROG Ally X to function. This fundamental difference in purpose makes the ASUS the clear choice for anyone looking to buy a gaming device.
processor power
The ASUS ROG Ally features the AMD Ryzen Z1 Extreme processor. This chip provides the computing power needed for modern gaming. It handles game logic, physics, and system tasks. The Olivechard product does not list a processor. As a screen replacement, it relies on the host console's CPU. You get the full performance of the Ally X when using the Olivechard screen. However, on its own, the Olivechard part has no processing capability. For a standalone gaming experience, the ASUS is the only viable option.
storage capacity
The ASUS ROG Ally comes with 512GB of internal storage. This space holds your operating system, games, and save files. You can install multiple titles without needing external drives. The Olivechard screen assembly does not include any storage. It is purely a display component. You must rely on the host console's existing storage. If you are buying a new device, the ASUS provides all necessary storage. If you are repairing an existing unit, the Olivechard part does not change your storage options.
display resolution
The ASUS ROG Ally lists a 7-inch 120Hz display but does not specify the resolution in the provided specs. The Olivechard screen is explicitly an FHD 1920x1080 IPS display. It also features up to 500 nits brightness and an anti-fingerprint coating. This means you know exactly what visual quality the replacement offers. The ASUS screen may vary in resolution details not listed here. For clarity on pixel density and sharpness, the Olivechard specs are more detailed. However, the ASUS unit is a complete package with a verified working screen.
compatibility
The ASUS ROG Ally is a standalone console. It works independently with controllers, Wi-Fi, and power. The Olivechard screen is strictly for the ASUS ROG Ally X 2024 (RC72LA). It is not compatible with the 2023 ROG Ally or other models. You must verify your specific device model before considering the Olivechard part. This limits its use to repair scenarios only. The ASUS has no such restrictions. You can use it out of the box. For general compatibility and ease of use, the ASUS is far more versatile.
portability and weight
The ASUS ROG Ally weighs 1.1 pounds and measures 4.4 x 11 x 0.8 inches. It is a substantial handheld device designed for gaming on the go. The Olivechard screen assembly weighs only 4.23 ounces. It is very light because it is just a component. You cannot carry the Olivechard part as a gaming device. It must be installed inside a console. For portability as a gaming unit, the ASUS is the practical choice. The Olivechard part is only portable in the sense that it is small and easy to store in a toolbox.
Which handheld gaming PC suits you
Gamers needing a complete device
You need a fully functional handheld gaming PC. The ASUS ROG Ally includes the AMD Z1 Extreme processor, 512GB storage, and a 7-inch 120Hz screen. It is ready to run games immediately. The Olivechard item is only a replacement part and cannot operate on its own.
Owners fixing a broken Ally X
You have a damaged ASUS ROG Ally X 2024 (RC72LA) and need to restore it. This Olivechard assembly provides a 7-inch IPS display with 1080p resolution and 120Hz refresh rate. It includes the touch digitizer and frame. It is not a standalone console for new purchases.
Users wanting high brightness visuals
You prioritize screen quality for repair or specific display needs. The Olivechard part offers up to 500 nits of brightness and an anti-fingerprint coating. This ensures clear visuals in bright environments. The ASUS unit is a complete system but does not specify its maximum brightness level in the data.
