ASUS ROG Ally Versus MSI Claw
Processor Architecture
The processing hardware determines how smoothly your handheld PC runs modern software. The ASUS ROG Ally 7" 120Hz Z1 Extreme Handheld features the AMD Ryzen Z1 Extreme processor. In contrast, the MSI Claw A1M 7" 1080p Handheld runs on an Intel platform. It includes the 14th Gen Intel Ultra 5-135H processor running at 3.60GHz with boost speeds up to 4.6 GHz. This chip provides an 18MB cache, 14 cores, 18 threads, and 4 Performance-cores, supported by Intel Arc Integrated Graphics. If you want verified multi-core specifications and dedicated Intel graphics hardware, the MSI Claw gives you a fully detailed architecture.
Chassis Weight and Portability
Device weight directly impacts handling comfort during long handheld sessions. The ASUS ROG Ally 7" 120Hz Z1 Extreme Handheld weighs 1.1 pounds and measures 4.4 inches wide, 11 inches long, and 0.8 inches thick. In comparison, the MSI Claw A1M 7" 1080p Handheld weighs 1.44 pounds. Its chassis measures 4.6 inches long, 11.6 inches wide, and 0.83 inches thick. The ASUS handheld is over a third of a pound lighter and slightly smaller across all dimensions. If you prioritize a lighter form factor that reduces arm fatigue while you play, the ASUS ROG Ally offers the more compact build.
Display Resolution and Panel Type
Display clarity and touchscreen functionality shape how you interact with your operating system and games. Both devices feature 7-inch panels capable of 120Hz refresh rates. However, the MSI Claw A1M 7" 1080p Handheld specifies an IPS touchscreen display with a Full HD resolution of 1920x1080. The ASUS ROG Ally 7" 120Hz Z1 Extreme Handheld lists its 7-inch size and 120Hz refresh rate, but its specifications do not confirm the display panel type, screen resolution, or touch capability. Because the MSI Claw explicitly confirms 1080p resolution and touch input alongside the fast refresh rate, it gives you full display clarity.
System Memory
System RAM defines how well a gaming PC handles background tasks and memory-heavy game assets. The MSI Claw A1M 7" 1080p Handheld includes 16GB of onboard RAM. This allocation ensures your operating system and integrated graphics have dedicated memory bandwidth for gaming workloads. On the other hand, the ASUS ROG Ally 7" 120Hz Z1 Extreme Handheld does not list its RAM capacity in the published specifications. Without confirmed memory numbers for the ASUS unit, you cannot verify its capacity from the provided data. The MSI Claw takes the clear edge by confirming a standard 16GB onboard memory setup.
Internal Storage Capacity
Internal storage dictates how many game installations you can keep ready to launch without relying on external drives. The ASUS ROG Ally 7" 120Hz Z1 Extreme Handheld comes equipped with 512GB of internal storage. Matching that capacity, the MSI Claw A1M 7" 1080p Handheld also provides 512GB, specified as a PCIe NVMe solid-state drive. Both devices give you the identical 512GB threshold for downloading your game library and system files. Because neither handheld provides more base capacity than the other, you receive the same out-of-the-box storage volume on both the ASUS and the MSI hardware.
Connectivity and Expansion Ports
Expansion ports and wireless standards affect how you connect peripherals, external displays, and storage cards. The MSI Claw A1M 7" 1080p Handheld provides a Thunderbolt 4 port, a micro SD reader, a headphone and microphone combo jack, and Bluetooth 5.4 support. These ports allow high-speed data transfers, memory expansion, and wireless pairing for controllers or headsets. In contrast, the ASUS ROG Ally 7" 120Hz Z1 Extreme Handheld does not list its external ports, card slots, or Bluetooth version in the provided data. If you need verified port options and modern wireless support, the MSI Claw specifies a versatile physical connection suite.
