The original bundle delivers a complete starter setup with a PlayStation VR headset, PlayStation camera, and vouchers for five full games. It supports accessories like the PlayStation Aim controller and Move motion controllers. However, the kit weighs 6 pounds and requires a wired console connection. You might prefer a different brand, a lighter headset, standalone storage options like 256GB, or updated hardware features like 4K HDR output.

Comparing Alternatives to the Original Bundle
Meta Quest 3S 256GB White
The Meta Quest 3S features 256GB of internal storage in a standalone format and a white finish. In contrast, the original PlayStation VR bundle weighs 6 pounds, uses a blue chassis, and requires a console connection with an external PlayStation camera. With the Quest 3S, you do not need dedicated console cables to operate the unit. However, you give up the five included game vouchers, such as Skyrim VR and Resident Evil 7, along with Aim controller compatibility. Choose this model if you want an all-in-one headset with 256GB of onboard storage.
Meta Quest 3S 256GB VR Headset
This Meta Quest 3S version provides 256GB of storage and measures 8.62 by 4.76 by 9.76 inches. At 3.04 pounds, it weighs roughly half of the 6-pound original PlayStation VR bundle, which measures 10.2 by 8.24 by 13.4 inches. You gain a compact physical profile and standalone portability without wiring into a PlayStation console or setting up a tracking camera. You lose the original bundle's five software vouchers, Demo Disc 3.0, and support for PlayStation Move controllers. Pick this headset if you prioritize a lighter 3.04-pound footprint and integrated 256GB capacity over console-bound software.
PlayStation VR2 Horizon Bundle
The PlayStation VR2 Horizon Bundle measures 10 by 7.63 by 16.9 inches and weighs 5.02 pounds, making it nearly a pound lighter than the 6-pound original hardware. It is built as an updated console setup paired with Horizon software. Compared to the older package, you do not receive the five included games, such as Astro Bot Rescue Mission and PlayStation VR Worlds. It also lacks compatibility with legacy hardware like the PlayStation Aim controller and Move motion controllers. You should pick this option if you want updated PlayStation console VR hardware in a lighter 5.02-pound design.
Valve Index PC VR Headset (Renewed)
The Valve Index renewed headset operates on the PC platform rather than a PlayStation console. It comes in black and weighs 4 pounds, cutting two pounds off the 6-pound PlayStation VR bundle. Its dimensions measure 12.5 by 12.5 by 15.2 inches. By moving to this headset, you leave behind console dependency and the need for the PlayStation camera. However, you sacrifice console plug-and-play setup, the five bundled PlayStation game vouchers, and DualShock wireless controller compatibility. Choose the Valve Index if you want a lighter 4-pound headset dedicated strictly to a computer-based VR system.
PlayStation VR2 Horizon Bundle
This PlayStation VR2 model comes in black and weighs 5.2 pounds, compared to the 6-pound blue original pack. Its physical dimensions are 16.9 by 10 by 7.48 inches, making it longer but lower in height than the original unit's 8.24-inch profile. While it includes Horizon software, it trades away the multi-game pack containing Skyrim VR, Resident Evil 7, and Everybody's Golf VR. It also drops support for PlayStation Move controllers and Gold wireless headsets. Select this package if you want a black console headset with updated physical specifications and a lower overall system weight.
Meta Quest 2 256GB White
The Meta Quest 2 weighs 1.83 pounds, offering a drastic weight reduction against the 6-pound original bundle. Measuring 8.8 by 5.1 by 17.7 inches, it features 256GB of integrated storage in a white shell. It operates wirelessly, freeing you from console cords and the PlayStation camera requirement. You give up the five bundled PlayStation games, the Demo Disc, and compatibility with the PlayStation Aim and DualShock controllers. Pick the Quest 2 if you want an ultra-lightweight 1.83-pound VR device with 256GB of storage and complete freedom from console cables.
