Specifications side by side

How to choose the right one

1. Check Display Technology

Start by identifying the display type you prefer. The Anbernic RG556 features an AMOLED screen, which provides superior contrast and deeper blacks compared to standard panels. This makes it ideal if you prioritize visual fidelity and color accuracy. Other models in this list use standard touchscreens. If you do not need the enhanced contrast of AMOLED, a standard display may suffice. Your choice here directly impacts how games look during long sessions.

2. Evaluate RAM Capacity

Memory size determines how smoothly you can run modern emulators. The Voacle RG Slide and RG Cube both include 8GB of RAM. This amount allows for better multitasking and smoother performance when handling larger game files. Models with less memory may struggle with demanding titles. Ensure you check the specifications for RAM before purchasing. Higher RAM generally supports more complex retro gaming setups without stuttering or lag during intensive scenes.

3. Consider Storage Space

Storage capacity dictates how many games you can keep locally. The Voacle RG477V offers 128GB of internal storage. This is useful if you plan to download many high-resolution ROMs or keep a large library on the device. Smaller storage options require you to manage files more carefully or use external cards. Check the listed capacity to ensure it meets your needs for game retention without frequent file management.

4. Assess Processor Power

The processor drives emulation performance for various console generations. The RG477V uses a Dimensity 8300 chip, offering strong processing power for Android emulation. The RG VITA utilizes a T618 processor, which provides solid performance for its price point. Stronger chips handle more demanding systems better. Compare the processor specifications to match your emulation goals, ensuring the device can handle the specific retro systems you wish to play.

5. Review Refresh Rates

A higher refresh rate ensures smoother motion in compatible games. The RG Slide and RG VITA both support 120Hz displays. This high refresh rate reduces motion blur and provides a more responsive feel. The RG556 focuses on contrast rather than high refresh rates. If you play fast-paced retro games, a 120Hz screen is beneficial. Verify the refresh rate in the specs to ensure fluid gameplay for action-heavy titles.
