The MSI Lineup at a Glance
Storage capacity divides these handhelds. The MSI Claw A1M 7" FHD Handheld offers a 1TB SSD and Windows 11 Pro, making it ideal if you store large game installations. For smaller game libraries, the MSI Claw A1M 7" 1080p 120Hz provides a 512GB SSD alongside an Intel Core Ultra 5 processor.
If drive capacity matters less to you, the MSI Claw A1M 7" 1080p Handheld and the MSI Claw A1M Intel Core Ultra Handheld center on Intel Core Ultra chips. These suit players looking for portable computing with fast refresh rates and standard touch controls.
Who MSI Handheld Gaming PCs Suit
MSI fits you if you want an Intel Core Ultra handheld with a 120Hz touchscreen. The hardware footprint does not change between models: each measured unit weighs 1.44 pounds and measures 0.83 inches thick.
Because the design remains uniform, shoppers face specific hardware limits. There is no spread between smaller or larger screen sizes beyond 7 inches, and no alternate chassis colors exist beside black. System memory stays fixed at 16GB RAM, with internal storage capping at 1TB. You will not find variation in device shape.
How to Choose an MSI Handheld
-
Evaluating the Processor Tier
Processor choice affects overall system execution and graphical upscaling. Look for specific chip mentions such as Intel Core Ultra or the Core Ultra 5 found in the MSI Claw A1M 7" 1080p 120Hz. These chips feature Intel XeSS technology for resolution upscaling. If you target demanding 3D games, verify the exact Core Ultra tier listed. Ensure the processor meets the minimum system requirements of your primary game library.
-
Matching Internal Storage Capacity
Internal storage dictates how many games you can install locally. The hardware listings show capacities of either 512GB or 1TB across solid-state drives. A 1TB drive, available on the MSI Claw A1M 7" FHD Handheld, suits players who install multiple large PC titles at once. If you maintain a smaller active rotation or prefer lighter games, a 512GB SSD configuration provides adequate storage space without excess capacity.
-
Checking Operating System Editions
Operating system options determine software compatibility and management features. Published specifications indicate Windows platforms, with certain models specifying Windows 11 Pro. If you require advanced network integration, domain joining, or enterprise-grade security tools, look for Windows 11 Pro in the product details. For standard PC gaming, standard Windows editions run game launchers, digital storefronts, and third-party utilities without needing specialized professional management tools.
-
Reviewing Port Connectivity Options
High-speed port connectivity determines your docking and expansion options. Check the specifications for Thunderbolt 4 support, as listed on select units. Thunderbolt 4 provides fast data transfer speeds and supports external monitor output through a single connection. If you plan to connect your handheld to desktop displays, hubs, or external storage drives, verify that Thunderbolt 4 is present. Portable-only users may not need this interface.
-
Assessing Display Refresh Rates
Display specifications control visual sharpness and motion clarity. Compare resolution and refresh rates across the lineup. Models like the MSI Claw A1M 7" 1080p Handheld list a 1080p resolution paired with a 120Hz refresh rate and touchscreen input. A 120Hz panel renders motion twice as fast as standard 60Hz screens, aiding fast gameplay. Ensure your chosen model explicitly lists 1080p and 120Hz if you prioritize smooth motion.
